Assistant Professor of Communication/Digital Media Production - Fall 2019

The Grand View University Communication Department invites applications for a full-time communication faculty member with specialization in one or more of the following disciplines: video production, digital photography, graphic design, new media. Employment will begin in the fall semester of 2019.

As such, we are looking for someone with extensive experience as a visual storyteller who embraces innovation and emerging technologies and who is passionate about preparing students to be nimble, thoughtful media professionals in the ever-changing communication world. The right candidate will have recent professional experience producing digital media content (particularly video and photo content) in a journalism, public relations, marketing or corporate communication setting.
University-level teaching experience is preferred. A master’s degree is also preferred.
The new faculty member will be expected to remain connected to the field via freelance work or other professional-development activities. Duties also include advising students, advising student media, and engaging in university/community service.
Depending on skills and interest, teaching assignments could include these courses: Basic Digital Photography, Video Production Lab, Multimedia Storytelling, Emerging Video Techniques, Publication Design, Public Relations Principles, Communication Law & Ethics, Public Relations Campaigns, Sports and Media, Electronic Field Production, Long-Form Storytelling, Multimedia Career Seminar.

Three to five reference names must be provided, at least a couple that could speak about teaching abilities.
