The Director of Strategic Planning will play a key leadership role in the Corporate Strategy and Development team, which is responsible for supporting Cox Communications’ corporate strategy formation and strategic planning activities.  You will play a critical role in driving the strategic planning process across the organization.  Responsibilities include supporting the execution of our long-term growth vision and strategy at the enterprise and Line of Business level, running our annual strategic planning process, and orchestrating the development of strategic priorities and initiatives by Line of Business / Function that are aligned with our strategic priorities.




  • Supports the Corporate Strategy and Development team in developing and refreshing top-down strategic plan by conducting key analyses and developing the required documentation
  • Ensures that bottom-up plans for Lines of Business / Functions are aligned with long term vision and top-down strategic guidance
  • Cascades top-down strategic planning to guidance for strategic operating plans by liaising with strategic planning leads across Lines of Business / Functions
  • Facilitates the development of strategic plans and initiatives (SPIs) across Lines of Business / Functions by tracking progress, ensuring alignment to strategic priorities, resolving issues and escalating any unresolved issues as required
  • Consolidates SPIs across Lines of Business / Functions to ensure dependencies are accounted for and resource requirements are in line top-down guidance and Financial Planning team expectations
  • Creates accountability for our strategic priorities with KPIs, regular measurement, and appropriate adjustments to our strategy or operating plans
  • Collaborates with financial planning team to ensure alignment around financial projections, resource requirements and priorities
  • Maintains ownership of instruments related to the strategic planning process including planning agendas, tools, templates, and RACI’s, and trains individuals across the organization to use them
  • Collaborates with corporate communication team to develop a communication plan for the strategy at enterprise and Line of Business / Function level
  • Prepares agendas and documents for quarterly strategy off-sites/sessions
  • Ultimately, ensures that our strategic planning process is executed effectively, efficiently, collaboratively, and on schedule


  • Requires strong knowledge and experience with strategic planning processes, frameworks and tools; demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving, and presentation skills

  • Significant attention to detail and follow-up; high degree of personal accountability and ownership

  • Superior organizational skills

  • Strong research and analytical skills

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization and functional areas.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage detailed and complex information in a rapidly changing environment

  • Ability to work well in a team environment

  • 10+ years of total professional experience (post undergrad)


  • BS/BA degree in related discipline strongly preferred (i.e., Strategy, Business Operations/Finance, Marketing/Product Marketing, Product/Product Strategy, etc.). 

  • MBA from a top 20 business school desired

  • 5+ years of experience in a management role, leading cross functional projects and/or strategic planning preferred

  • Experience and depth in the telecommunications and media industry a plus

  • 2-5 yrs in a top tier strategy consulting firm a plus
