Advancement Communications Coordinator

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience on a communications team at an agency or in-house marketing communications department (e.g. creating email, using content management systems to update website content, writing, editing, and proofing press releases, stories, and marketing copy).
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in public relations, communications, English, journalism or related field. Three (3) or more years of experience on a communications team at an agency or in-house marketing communications department (e.g. creating email, using content management systems to update website content, writing, editing and proofing press releases, stories, and marketing copy). Basic skills with Adobe Creative Suite programs such as Photoshop and Adobe Pro. Comfortable working with PowerPoint and working knowledge of Google Drive. Prior experience with content management systems (e.g. OmniUpdate, WordPress, Joomla and/or Drupal). Prior experience with contact platforms (e.g. Lumniate, Constant Contact, and/or Mailchimp). Experience in higher education or a nonprofit organization.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Communications Coordinator is a member of the Stony Brook University Advancement (Fundraising) Communications Team, with the primary responsibility of helping execute the tactical elements of our annual marketing to alumni, prospects, and donors, under the supervision of the Sr. Director of Advancement Communications and with a dotted line to the Team's Project Manager.
The selected candidate must have excellent communication skills as well as a confident presenter and communicator. They will have creative ideas and interest in emerging new media best practices. A successful candidate will be proactive, reliable and accurate with excellent interpersonal skills.
The Coordinator's will be responsible for the following:
Maintaining and enhancing the content of fundraising related websites.
Creating emails to support major events and fundraising appeals.
Writing, editing and proofing related stories for both owned and earned media, social media posts and sourcing images for all the above.
Assist with tracking and maintaining vital metrics used to help inform the Team's strategies and tactics and may also supervise student workers.
Participate in planning sessions, assist in organizing projects.
Maintain a calendar of email requests from Advancement internal clients and annual editorial calendar.
Monitor websites to ensure content is fresh and consistent with University guidelines, grammatically correct, free of typos and generally reflect excellence.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Night and Weekend may be required.
