Manager, Senior Manager, and Director, Media Relations and External Communications

POSITION OVERVIEW:

As an integral part of the communications team, work with senior policy leaders to handle media strategy and outreach to broaden awareness and increase the visibility of the Chamber and its agenda.   

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Initiate, develop, and deliver earned media campaigns to build awareness and coverage of Chamber issues, programs, and events.
  • Handle breaking news developments and longer term offensive media campaigns.
  • Serve as the media contact for a portfolio of programs and divisions.
  • Draft and clear communications materials including press releases, media advisories, op-eds, and executive briefings.
  • Pitch and place Chamber policy experts.
  • Build and grow relationships with the media in Washington and around the country.
  • Provide early morning news updates on a regular, rotating basis.


REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of media relations experience; sophisticated understanding of business issues and how media works; solid network of media contacts in and around D.C.; proven track record of managing media relationships and pitching and successfully landing stories; demonstrated experience integrating social and digital into media relations; ability to distill complex issues into compelling copy; a commitment to free markets and free enterprise; ability to thrive in a fast-paced, complex, and matrixed environment; and familiarity with Cision or similar database and analytics software. Only exemplary writers need apply. Policy and PR agency experience preferred.

Salary commensurate with experience.
