Marketing Compliance Associate

The Penguin Random House Legal Department is seeking to fill the position of a Marketing Compliance Associate to join the department’s Digital Marketing team, which works directly with the company’s marketing groups and is responsible for providing compliance guidance on marketing, advertising and data privacy issues. This position demands a high level of organization and analytical thinking, excellent writing and interpersonal/communication skills and comfort with technology.

Essential Functions:

* Collaborate with attorneys to advise marketers on day-to-day online and social media campaigns and on new marketing initiatives
* Advise marketers on structuring compliant sweepstakes/contests, including drafting official rules and reviewing promotional copy and co-sponsorship agreements
* Assist with data protection and privacy matters, including advising on data-based marketing risks, responding to consumer information requests and managing data processing records
* Assist in preparing policies, guidelines, presentations and trainings on a variety of topics, including sweepstakes, influencers, email marketing and data privacy
* Manage oversight of legal technology tools (e.g., contract management system)
* Minimal administrative duties (e.g., answering phones, calendar management)


Educational/Experience Requirements:

* Candidates with at least 3 or more years of marketing, advertising or legal experience are preferred
* An individual with an interest in marketing, advertising, publishing and law
* Can work independently, assume responsibility for seeing projects through, help to set up and manage systemized processes and provide direct support for Penguin Random House’s marketing groups
* Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to take ownership of on-going projects, take initiative, exercise independent judgment and to problem solve
* Excellent organizational and project management skills, interpersonal/communication skills, technology skills as well as attention to detail are required.
* Candidates must have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and set priorities.
* Understanding of CRM trends and best practices is a plus
* Working knowledge of social media and proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Power Point) are essential
