TravelAge West, a leading travel industry trade publication based in Los Angeles, is looking for an Editorial Intern to assist editors in all aspects of digital and print magazine publishing. We are looking for an intern to start immediately. Interns spend most of their time writing and editing, and they will have many opportunities to pitch and develop their own print and Web stories. Interns will be contributing to our award-winning print magazines, including TravelAge West, Explorer and Family Getaways, as well as TravelAgeWest.com.
Interns will get a first-hand look into the changing dynamics of publishing and learn best practices for writing for the web, how to fact-check and copy edit, how to pitch stories, the role of social media in publishing, how a print magazine is put together and more. In addition to being a great experience in magazine publishing and journalistic writing, the internship offers an insider’s perspective of the travel industry and its career opportunities.
We are seeking a candidate with very strong writing and editing abilities and an interest in publishing, editing, writing, digital journalism and the travel industry.
The internship is paid, and school/academic credit is not a requirement. Editorial interns’ stories are published in both our print magazines and website.
We ask interns to be in the office for one to two full days a week (usually 11 a.m.-5 p.m.), so please note availability and possible starting date. Internships typically last three months, with potential for an extension to six months. We are looking for someone to start as soon as possible.
How to Apply:
To apply, please send your resume, a cover letter explaining why you’d be a good fit for the internship as well as relevant writing samples. Please note availability and possible starting date. In your cover letter, please include some destinations/angles you would be interested in writing about that you think would be relevant to our audience.
