The Bangor Daily News is seeking a digital editor to manage digital content around news and topics that people care about. Digital editors work with reporters, the digital engagement editor and senior editors to identify compelling ways to enhance news coverage.
In this role, you will curate the bangordailynews.com homepage for maximum audience and news value, and curate and aggregate content around breaking news and topics that matter to Maine. You will execute quality control on all site content, write compelling headlines, summaries and social media posts to attract readers to our site, and aggressively follow other sources competing for our audience’s attention and find ways to be better. Digital editors use available multimedia -- including text, photos, videos, gifs and charts -- from both the BDN's own archives and from around the web to deepen the audience's understanding of the story and push content through all appropriate channels to maximize audience.
We are looking for someone who has great news judgment, proven success writing for a digital audience and knows how to spot trending stories and brainstorm follow-ups. You should know how to interpret data and build charts, maps and other digital storytelling media, have experience creating and editing videos and love social media and experimenting with new platforms. We are looking for someone who enjoys analyzing site and social media metrics to learn from our strengths and weaknesses and isn’t afraid to show personality while being true to the brand.
We are Maine’s most-read news organization, covering Maine’s political, social, cultural and economic trends, driving our state’s public conversations and holding Maine officials accountable. We are committed to informing our community. In doing so, we bring Maine together. We invite interested candidates to forward a cover letter and a resume.
