Art in America: Assistant Editor

Published since 1913, Art in America is an independent magazine devoted to art criticism. We seek a full-time Assistant Editor with strong writing and editing skills and a deep interest in contemporary art. Reporting to the Editor and working closely with a tight-knit editorial staff, the Assistant Editor helps prepare reviews and columns for publication online and in print, contributing to all stages of the editorial process. The Assistant Editor also plays a vital role in expanding Art in America’s digital presence.

Responsibilities:

  • Commissions and edits columns and reviews for Art in America
  • Commissions and edits stories for artinamericamagazine.com
  • Writes essays for the website and print magazine
  • Manages an intensive fact-checking and proofreading process
  • Contributes to Art in America’s social media accounts
  • Maintains digital and print archives
  • Corresponds with writers, curators, and art institutions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in art history or related field
  • At least one year of professional editorial experience that includes detailed fact-checking, copy-editing, and proofreading
  • Familiarity with the contemporary art world
  • Proficiency with online publishing and social media
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
