Department Summary

Future video is on a mission to produce compelling short-form content that illuminates our diverse editorial.  With the goal of balancing quality and quantity, our global team of producers create content across tech, gaming, music and space/science.  Our New York operations is based out of our own intimate studio on 42nd street.

Job Summary & Purpose

Future’s collection of tech media (Tom’s Guide, Tech Radar, Tom’s Hardware and Laptopmag) and science sites ( and LiveScience) seeks a NY City-based shooter and editor.  This candidate must be a self-starter and self-sufficient with the ability to take complex ideas and translate them into easily-digestible, engaging digital videos. Personal interest in tech product and/or science/space a plus.  Working knowledge of cameras, lighting, audio a must in addition to fluency in Adobe Premiere and creative suite.

Key role responsibilities:

  • Identify trending topics and distill information (working with and without reporters) to craft timely and evergreen short form videos.

  • Ability to follow templates and source photos/broll to illustrate text-based videos.

  • Post production speed and dexterity that does not sacrifice quality.

  • Thirst for producing multiple pieces in a day from ideation, execution/editing, posting and social media distribution.

  • Competence to be a “one-man-band,” with an eye for lighting and ear for audio, as needed both in-studio and on-location.

  • Deep and demonstrated knowledge of current social media trends and how to optimize video content and views online.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Two-three years editing and shooting content at a high-volume digital media outlet.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications or journalism or related field required.

  • Expertise in Adobe Premiere and working knowledge of After Effects and Photoshop.

  • Familiarity with Canon C100.

  • Experience writing scripts, quickly and efficiently.

  • Ability to shoot strategically and have the foresight to know how a video will all come together in post.

  • A diplomatic, can-do attitude that seeks to get the job done… on repeat.
