NBC News is looking for a digital editor to drive its mobile coverage and alert strategy. The editor will be primarily responsible for curating NBC News’ mobile app, writing and sending breaking news alerts, and increasing referral traffic to NBC News content from partners such as Apple News, Flipboard and Smartnews.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about digital media and mobile trends, and have a sharp eye for what resonates with a mobile audience. The role, which is will also involve producing the homepage, is based in New York.

It will require working either a Saturday or a Sunday.

Key duties:
  • Curating’s mobile app with a lively selection of NBC News' best content.
  • Writing and sending breaking news alerts. Helping drive alert our strategy by monitoring successes and failures.
  • Monitoring real-time analytics to help inform story selection and strategy.
  • Working with the’s homepage and photo teams to ensure stories and videos have sharp headlines, photos, and summaries.
  • A/B testing headlines to increase traffic.
  • Pitching stories to, and increasing referral traffic from, partners such as Apple News, Flipboard and Smartnews.
  • Staying on top of mobile trends to ensure is a leader in mobile storytelling.

  • Basic Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree
    • 2 years working in a newsroom
    • A deep understanding of media trends, especially consumption on mobile
    • Proven news judgment, high ethical standards and wonderful interpersonal skills
    • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours depending when demanded by news coverage and other editorial responsibilities
    • Must be able to work under tight deadline pressure
    • Ability to travel, if necessary
