- Full Time
Express, The Washington Post’s award-winning free daily paper, is searching for a versatile, detail-oriented editor with excellent news judgment and strong editing skills to join its features team.
The ideal candidate has his or her finger on the pulse of what’s going on culturally in D.C., with an extensive knowledge of the city’s arts, music, comedy, dining, theater and fitness scenes — both from a local and national perspective. If you constantly have a busy calendar of events or friends always ask you for advice on what to do after work, this may be the role for you.
Duties include helping to produce the paper’s weekly arts and events section, Weekend Pass; editing and assigning stories for our weekly fitness and wellness section, Fit; pitching and writing blurbs and stories for various sections of Express; assisting with managing the paper’s social media feeds; assisting with curating and editing down wire content for the daily, nationally focused entertainment section; writing clever headlines for print and online; and working on annual and semi-annual special sections.
A strong candidate would be able to nimbly shift between editing, writing and administrative tasks as needed.
Careful attention to detail and knowledge of AP style are required. A familiarity with Express’ quick, witty style and experience working with InDesign and the major social media platforms are a plus. Candidates will also come to Express with fresh ideas to strengthen both our print sections and our evolving digital presence.
This is a position with room for growth and offers the opportunity to work on other parts of the paper, including local news coverage and our popular celebrity gossip page, People.
Published by The Washington Post Co., Express is read by more than 325,000 commuters Monday through Friday. Express is based in downtown D.C., near McPherson Square Metro.
Please send your résumé, a cover letter, three published clips and three pitches for stories you’d write for Express by Friday, June 7.
No phone calls, please.
