The Audio Publishing Division of Penguin Random House is seeking a detail-oriented Business Manager to join a fast-growing and highly profitable department within book publishing. This position will report into the Senior Vice President of Business Operations for the division and will take a leading role in managing and analyzing the day-to-day operations of the audio business. Specifically, this position will have an active role in monthly reporting and analysis, budgeting and re-forecasting, and ad hoc analysis and reporting.

The PRH Audio business publishes 1,200+ titles a year in both digital and physical formats across an array of genres, including adult and children’s fiction, history, business, health and wellness, for both the retail and library channels. The Business Manager position will work directly with the publisher of the division and the rest of the senior management team.

Specific responsibilities include:
* Managing monthly financial closings, including detailed analyses of sales, cost of goods sold, and operating expenses.
* Creating monthly financial summaries for key managers in the division, including written commentaries on the month’s results.
* Reviewing and reconciling external sales reporting from non-traditional customers and third-party distributors.
* Working with corporate finance and the divisional finance team to prepare and update the annual divisional budget, as well as periodic re-forecasts.
* Assisting the editorial and marketing teams in preparing and understanding title P&Ls to analyze acquisition and promotional opportunities.
* Assisting the publisher and departmental managers in making decisions by providing and interpreting information on title sales, advances, expenses, marketing spending, and other aspects of the business.
* Working on special projects, including sales trend analyses, cost studies, profitability analyses, post-mortem analyses of publications, customer research, etc.
* Serving as the primary business operations point of contact for the audio business by answering employee questions, providing explanations, and investigating problems as needed.Penguin Random House is the leading adult and children’s publishing house in North America, the United Kingdom and many other regions around the world.
