AN Media Group, publisher of The Architect’s Newspaper and AN Interior, is currently accepting applications for a Managing Editor to report to the Executive Editor.

The ideal candidate is expected to be self-directed and detail-oriented in managing the day-to-day operations of the AN Media Group editorial team, ensuring that everything is produced in a timely, efficient manner while delivering high quality, relevance, and substance. He/she is expected to be aware of news and trends in architecture, technology, construction, environment and design.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations relating to print, social media, and digital schedule/content flow, close and ship of print issues, editorial calendar and production cycle of AN Media’s brand portfolio
  • Edit and fact-check print copy
  • Work with senior leadership to monitor and strategize social media and digital content
  • Manage editorial interns, freelancers, and editors
  • Lead the intern hiring process and coordinate intern training
  • Own the editorial budget projections, and manage invoicing process
  • Work with the Editor-in-Chief and Executive Editor to communicate editorial direction and feedback to editors, as well as provide his/her own feedback
  • Consistently evaluate and improve processes to drive business efficiencies, brand effectiveness, and editorial staff satisfaction
  • Partner with Executive Editor and HR to enhance the staff culture by fostering ongoing communication regarding key initiatives and serving as a resource for the editorial staff to help resolve challenges swiftly

  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Best in class leadership and communication skills when developing and producing projects
  • Extraordinary organizational and interpersonal skills
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience working on a print or web publication
  • Previous experience in managing and editorial staff is required
  • Experience managing a slate of multiple projects simultaneously
  • 1+  years of copy editing experience
  • Is familiar with the Chicago Manual of Style
  • Has knowledge of Adobe InCopy, InDesign, or other desktop publishing program
  • Has experience working collaboratively with others on strict deadlines
  • Has knowledge of and interest in architecture, urbanism, design, and related fields
