The Retail Marketing Associate role will be responsible for assisting the company’s Chief Marketing Officer with marketing administrative support, including but not limited to planning, research, developing strategy and coordinating logistics of opening new retail establishments, building and managing inventory, travel planning, administrative support, as well as general marketing duties as assigned by CMO from time to time. The employee in this role must be a creative, analytical thinker with the ability to appropriately shift priorities throughout the work day and on short notice, communicate effectively and efficiently with others, and produce a high volume of quality work within a dynamic and fast paced environment on tight deadlines. This is an hourly, non-exempt, full-time position, reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer.


Essential Functions:

  • Assist with planning, strategy and logistics of opening new retail establishments
  • Contribute ideas when called upon related to retail marketing, merchandising, inventory, and design
  • Assist CMO with general marketing responsibilities
  • Assist CMO with general administrative duties such as scheduling, correspondence and off site tasks
  • Assist with product selection, inventory setup/stocking and merchandising for launch of new retail establishments
  • Source local vendors to coordinate a variety of marketing projects
  • Coordinate local promotion, advertising and public relations as it relates to retail
  • Assist CMO with market research projects and associated activities
  • Take diligent notes and transcribe for records, correspondence,  and actionable next steps
  • Assist with vendor sourcing, setup, and ordering
  • Assist CMO with other duties as assignedContribute written copy for retail related marketing materials and display



Required Education, Skills and Experience:

Education & Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ marketing experience with B. A. Degree in Retail Merchandising, Fashion, Design or related field
  • 5-7 years’ related retail experience without degree
  • Proficiency in office productivity tools such as Excel and Google Spreadsheets
  • Experience working in the cannabis industry or a complex highly regulated industry a plus




  • Experience working in a high-end retail and/or wholesale environment
  • Experience with logistics and simultaneously organizing multiple, shifting tasks within multiple projects
  • Experience building and managing inventory for retail and wholesale
  • Familiarity and interest in advanced technology to improve customer experience
  • Ability to improvise and deliver thoughtful, deliberate choices in the moment
  • Charismatic and friendly demeanor with the ability to communicate professionally with a variety of internal and external customers, clients and vendors
  • Experience with retail merchandising and display
  • Experience writing copy and writing for marketing material
  • Demonstrated proficiency in creative design, with a discerning eye for brand appropriateness
  • Familiarity with photography and videography and ability to plan shoots
  • Ability to stay on brand while working on multiple brands simultaneously
  • Diligent, thoughtful, meticulous attention to detail, knows the value of pausing before acting
  • Ability to take constructive feedback and integrate into work style and output
  • Experience informs split-second decisions
  • Demonstrated proficiency in creative design in a retail context, with a discerning eye for interior layout and display
  • Familiarity with branding and product design
  • Familiarity with consumer buying trends and current market trends specifically in food, fashion, home goods, cannabis, wellness, and design

Hours, Time Commitments, Location

  • Flexible schedule with a definite willingness to work nights and weekends when needed for projects and deadlines
  • Must be able to work at our offices in Salinas CA and surrounding area with a willingness to travel as needed with CMO
  • Willingness to relocate by Q4 2019 to LA or Bay Area
  • Must be familiar and comfortable with using technology for communication such as Skype, Zoom, and Google for video, screen sharing, and remote communication needs.
