NAHB seeks an experienced copy editor/writer to prepare and edit presentations, blog posts, web pages, brochures, speeches and other materials for NAHB’s communications team.

The director of editorial services works cooperatively with staff to gather information about NAHB’s priorities to ensure that presentations and written materials advance the association’s advocacy agenda and strengthen its status as the voice of the housing industry.

Candidates for this director-level position must be creative, self-motivated and calm under pressure, and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Candidates need to demonstrate a track record as a proven and confident copy editor. They should also have a history of producing high-quality writing, such as news articles, press releases, reports, opinion editorials, letters to the editor, speeches and other presentations and similar work. The ability to work with a wide range of professionals from various disciplines – legislative, legal, technical and economic – to understand and explain highly complex issues is essential. Candidates must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with excellent attention to detail and follow-through. Workplace diplomacy skills such as negotiation, facilitation and persuasion are also useful. Candidates should enjoy research on a broad range of subjects.

Qualified candidates should have a minimum of eight years of in-depth experience in traditional news media and/or public relations and issues advocacy, as well as a proven history as a writer and editor. Knowledge of the housing or real estate fields is preferred. Candidates should also have experience conducting interviews and synthesizing complex information. Proficiency in social media, photo editing and web content management is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English or related field, or the equivalent in education and experience, is required.
