Full-Time Production Editor

We value being of service, a commitment to growth and transformation, exceptional teamwork and authentic connection, and being direct and kind.  We are seeking a full-time Production Editor to join our team in Louisville, CO.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as production editor on appropriate volume of titles per year to ensure that all books are 1) well edited, 2) copyedited, 3) proofread, 4) indexed, and 5) out of house on time per Sounds True’s preferred style and quality

     

    Collating proofs and checking corrections

     

    Hiring freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers, and reviewing the quality of their work 

     

    Cultivating relationships and collaborating with Sounds True authors

     

    Assisting authors on the endorsements process, as needed

     

    Tracking production calendars  to ensure books stay on schedule; communicating among the production team and across relevant departments when jobs are running behind; renegotiating deadlines when appropriate

     

    Assisting with ebook production, including mini ebooks, as needed

  • Assisting with production of paperback reprints, as well as reprint corrections for books and ebooks, as needed

     

The ideal candidate:

  • Has a bachelor’s degree in English, comparative literature, publishing, or writing

     

    Has 1-2+ years working in the production editorial department of a publishing house, publication, or periodical

     

    Has strong writing skills and detail orientation, is a meticulous copyeditor and proofreader, and must be able to pass Sounds True’s in-house proofreading test

     

    Has strong interpersonal and communication skills and a willingness to work collaboratively

     

    Is responsive and willing to stay in close and consistent communication with production, art and copy teams, and authors in order to keep projects on course

     

    Has excellent project management and planning skills (experience with project management software is a plus)

     

    Is proactive, well-organized, and excellent with deadlines and juggling multiple tasks at once

     

    Has a knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style and Microsoft Suite

     

    Has a genuine connection to the mission of Sounds True
