About HBR Analytic Services: 

HBR Analytic Services is an independent commercial research unit within HBR that conducts original quantitative and qualitative research and analysis on important management challenges and emerging business opportunities. The unit publishes reports based on this research that provide business intelligence and peer-group insight. Quantitative surveys are conducted with the HBR Advisory Council, HBR’s global research panel, and qualitative research is conducted with senior business executives and subject matter experts from within and beyond the HBR author community. 

Job Description

The Writer/Editor, Analytic Services will join the HBR Analytic Services team, which writes, edits, and manages various types of thought leadership reports of varying lengths and subjects. Dedicated specifically to the HBR Analytic Services business, the Writer/Editor will report to the Managing Editor. The role will be involved with all stages of client-driven research projects—ideation, reporting, writing, editing, launch, analysis, and publishing. The Writer/Editor will write some reports, assist the Managing Editor with editing contributing writers, help the Managing Editor in the management of those writers, work closely with project managers, take on editorial projects, interface with clients, and be a key contributor to the performance of this growing product portfolio. 

Responsibilities

• Work with the Managing Editor on daily coordination of editorial work that must be completed on deadline 
• Research and write reports 
• Assist in editing reports being written by others 
• Help manage HBR Analytic Services stable of contributing writers 
• Troubleshoot reporting and writing problems of other writers when the need arises 
• Interface with the Senior Researcher at HBR Analytic Services on surveys that accompany reports 
• Work with the Managing Editor on other projects to help HBR Analytic Services grow and refine its editorial process 
• Interface with clients with frequency on conference calls 
• Help coordinate editorial delivery with HBR Analytic Services project managers 
• Aid the Managing Editor in copyediting and proofreading reports 
• Assist in the coordination and vetting of additional contributing writers 
• Provide help when necessary on webinars and other product extensions 
• Help create client proposals and abstracts 

Requirements
• Four-year degree in Journalism, English, or Communications 
• At least five years’ experience as a features writer for a publication or as a thought leadership writer for a research or consulting firm. 
• At least two years’ editing experience 
• Zest for reporting and research 
• Ability to work in a team 
• Experience and ability meeting deadlines 
• Ability to multitask 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
• Ability to manage other writers 
• Strong organizational skills 
• Project management skills and experience 
• Ability and willingness to collaborate with clients 
• Experience copyediting and proofreading 
• Willingness to work with others to produce the best possible result 
• Experience with data and analysis as part of the writing process 
• Past experience writing about digital transformation, analytics and artificial intelligence would be a plus 
• Past experience designing surveys or questionnaires is a plus
