The Innovation Research Interchange (IRI) is the leading association of companies and federal laboratories working together to advance the field of innovation leadership. IRI is seeking a Managing Editor to work on its bimonthly peer-reviewed journal, Research-Technology Management (RTM). The Managing Editor, who reports to the journal’s Editor-in-Chief, oversees day-to-day management of all journal functions in accordance with the mission, vision, and goals of the association.
Policy and Management
- Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief in developing journal policy and managing the Board of Editors
- Work toward the implementation and adoption of journal policies
- Produce progress reports at the request of Editor-in-Chief for presentation at association meetings
Administration
- Create, coordinate, and maintain editorial calendar, production calendar, and special issue schedule, in consultation with Editor-in-Chief
- Manage peer reviewer pool
- Manage freelance contributors, book reviewers, and rotating columnists
- Act as point of contact for IRI staff and RTM’s publisher, Taylor and Francis (T&F)
- Work with IRI staff and others to identify IRI content that can be repurposed for RTM
Special Issue Management
- Collaborate with Editor-in-Chief to identify topics, invite guest editors, and create and finalize calls for special issues
Issue Management
- Identify candidate articles for each issue and work with authors to ensure their readiness by the issue’s production date
- Monitor and manage the production process, from first submission to T&F to final publication
- Ensure inclusion of IRI-related announcements, call for papers, and other content as appropriate
- Ensure T&F is aware of and complying with defined ship dates, mandatory fill, and other IRI requirements
Submission Management
- Maintain the Editorial Manager system
- Manage individual submission progress through the EM system
- Monitor and manage submission progress through editing to production
- Provide full editing of every accepted submission, from initial revised submission to final prepublication copy
Skills and Responsibilities
- Excellent editing skills, including attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication, analytical skills, and organizational abilities
- Ability to work independently
Qualifications
- At least 4 years editorial experience in a similar capacity
- Web 2.0 experience and the eagerness to apply Web 2.0 tools highly desired
- Technical or scholarly journal experience
- Possess a basic understanding of the vocabulary of the field of innovation management
Location and Details
- This is a contract position
- Position is expected to begin in the fall of 2019
- Position can be held remotely
- Flexible schedule, with availability during business hours in order to communicate with staff, Board of Editors, authors, and Editor-in-Chief.
