Provides leadership and strategic direction for design, development, delivery and maintenance of current and future technologies addressing internal and external business needs for the organization. Identifies new technologies and tools to support and improve technology delivery. Establishes and implements technical and operating performance standards. Drives Innovation working in partnership with the leader of Newsroom, Operations, Sales, Support & Marketing. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS
Vision & Strategy
Provide counsel and advice to the business on initiatives and solutions.Works closely with senior management to fully understand business priorities of the function and the organization as a wholeDevelop and communicate a multi-year product & technology strategy that unites product, technology and business teams toward a vision for the future.Establish functional strategic goals for improving operations, products and services. Initiate and direct activity aligned with achieving improvement goals. Leadership
Own end to end accountability for all aspects of product & technology for the organization. Provides functional strategic leadership and execution of technology solutions and support, ensuring support of the company's business objectives.Identifies, proposes, and influences business solutions, negotiates deliverables and requirements across multiple business customers or organizationsAct as a Change Agent for the technology and as a champion for the organization within technologyTrack and manage multiple ongoing initiatives in a dynamic, fast moving environmentCollaborate with members from other departments to build strong working relationships and deliver solid results
Product & Technology
Participate in identification and elaboration of market opportunities, and merge into product strategy that optimizes market breadth and value propositionDefine and measure individual and product portfolio ROI; discern where to invest and what to groom or sunset, based on meaningful measurement Ensure alignment across the various functional areas (sales, content, marketing, digital operations, product, etc.) Evolve product strategy into innovative, buildable software products and platforms Identify primary business users, and elaborate value propositions, use cases and stories Develop product layout, user experience, value and information flows Actively build and lead team of managers and product experts to get the details right, while not losing sight of the big picture Build maintain and leverage working relationships with both internal and external customers Effectively manage resources and budgets across organization to maximize performance and efficiency Define Service Level Agreements, systematically review and recommend initiatives to improve SLAs; remove obstacles that limit our delivery and ability to exceed customer expectations Drive a high level of employee engagement by effectively communicating company strategy, product vision and organizational scorecardsCreate and nourish an environment that drives continuous improvement and optimizes best practices Innovation

Supervises, coordinates, provides leadership to and reviews the work of managerial and senior professional level subordinatesRecruit, motivate and develop a superior staff. Implement a management system that is customer-focused, encourages creativity, drives performance, and effectively develops and rewards key performers.Partners with other functional groups to develop, manage, track, and analyze operational support structures, tools, methods and procedures and processes to gain maximum effectiveness, efficiency, and a quality customer experienceEnsures that the design and integration of customer solutions with Technology and business partners leads to the development and growth of the business through effective use of technologyCreates and directs operational plans and activities that result in accomplishing business strategiesServe on special cross-company or cross-function teams or committees to study and resolve complex problemsAnalyzes and manages capital and expense budgets. Develops an operating plan and budget that are part of a P&L or Cost Center Oversees and leads contract negotiations and vendor management.Directs Technology economic, alternative, and feasibility evaluations.Consults with business leaders to define key performance indicators and service levels, create a process framework, and initiate and direct improvement activities.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in business, information technology or related discipline. MBA preferred
10+ years of experience in related field, including several years in a management/supervisory capacity.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate clearly and effectively to all levels of the organization
Experience in building and operating large scale, complex, high throughput technology solutions
Experience in leading agile development methodology for the enterprise
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interact with all levels of management and user community
Experience with Technical Operations with proven success in a variety of process improvement and software disciplines
Experience with client-side web technologies (HTML5, CSS, JS, Ajax, etc.) & integrating with REST/JSON APIs
Experience working in a matrix organization
Design experience specifically experience in media applications including video and audio
Experience working with large scale, multi-site WCM/DAM/MAM systems
Preferred - Experience in News Papers, Magazines, Media, Technology, or related field
Preferred - Experience with interactive media, mobile design & app development from initial design through application launch
Preferred - Experience with digital visualization, info graphic concepts
