Here’s What You’ll Get to Do:
The Internal Communications Manager will play a central role in developing and disseminating communications tools that deliver priority messages to internal audiences, including staff and board. Below is an overview of key aspects of this critical role.
- Works closely with department heads to establish and implement an organization-wide internal communications strategy
- Develops organizational messages and plans to keep staff informed of news and developments through all stages of projects, from conceptualization through message refinement, internal distribution, follow-up and evaluation
- Ensures internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments
- Utilizes existing mechanisms for disseminating information internally, including the Foundation’s intranet platform, digital screens, internal newsletter and email communication
- Works with creative department to manage production and development of materials to support internal communications needs, including developing and monitoring messages for Foundation-wide announcements; documenting and communicating programmatic or organizational vision
- Works with technology and digital managers to identify and recommend internal communications tools that meet the Foundation’s overall communication needs
- Handles the internal communication response to crisis situations which affect organizational perception and reputation
Executive and Board Relations
- Works closely with the executive office to ensure coordination and cohesiveness in all forms of internal communications
- Works closely with program directors and grants management department to prepare quarterly dockets for the board of directors
- Drafts messages for senior executives to staff in written or spoken form
Here’s What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor or associate degree and minimum seven years of experience in communications or journalism that includes at least three years of project management responsibilities
- Experience within the philanthropic/nonprofit sector preferred
- Experience managing complex projects and advising senior managers
- Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills
- Expertise with a wide range of communications practices, products and tools
- Understanding of and experience with change management
- Strong interpersonal skills and a keen sense of emotional intelligence
- Strong conceptual, strategic and creative thinking abilities
- Excellent organizational and project management skills with a high attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to effectively implement and manage diverse communications strategies and activities
- Ability to build collaborative working relationships with staff at all levels of the organization and develop strong professional relationships and networks externally
- Expert knowledge of AP writing style; impeccable grammar and spelling and strong editing skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and CMS platforms
- Proficiency in HTML, video production, photography, CRM platforms and digital assets management a plus
