Mgr, Public/Media Relations
People/ Functional Leader III
Responsible for building and maintaining a positive image for Cox Communications with community leaders, media, the general public and employees through strategic external and internal communications; also responsible for securing favorable media coverage in the Las Vegas market. The position also serves as a principal spokesperson for Cox.
Public Relations/Media Relations focus:
May serve as principal spokesperson for Cox to local media.
Writes speeches, press releases and position papers on issues; develops messaging statements and FAQs.
Maintains a state of readiness and manages company crisis response to minimize damage to company reputation. Serves as a representative at crisis management (BCP) trainings, Send Word Now exercises and has knowledge of crisis communications management.
Creates Public Relations programs that positively position Cox's residential and business services to current and potential customers and align closely with marketing campaigns, using communications tools and practices, reinforce the competitive advantages and overall value of Cox's products.
Develops strategies to fully utilize social media and traditional media to monitor what’s being said about Cox and manage appropriate responses in a timely manner.
Works with and manages relationships with external Public Relations agencies.
Identifies relevant media, pitches journalists, drafts materials, monitors media placements, measures impact, communicates outcomes/value, provides status reports and archives daily coverage.
Partners with other PR and Internal Communications leaders in the region to develop and implement strategic and tactical plans for department and region including priorities, objectives, and timelines to meet performance and company goals.
Develops/supports product launches and special or one-off events in numerous ways including media support, venue research, organization, committee management, preparation of executive briefing materials, speech writing, message points creation, and onsite support as well as impact assessment.
Supports and promotes the company’s community relations efforts and initiatives such as Cox Charities, Cox Volunteers and annual events such as Food Drives and the Cox Back to School Fairs, among others.
Establishes, leverages and maintains strong partnerships with key internal stakeholders and external customers.
Is expected to stay abreast of new Cox product deployments and enhancements.
Employee Communications Focus:
Manages a wide variety of communications tools, including printed publications, electronic/intranet communications, employee meetings and events, videos, announcements, etc., which support open communication throughout the organization.
Coordinates with internal communications partners to prepare, publish and present unified and consistent written materials to employees/stakeholders and ensure organizational initiatives/projects are successfully communicated. Accountabilities include planning, writing and editing content for a variety of internal communications vehicles such as Cox One, Plugged In, Inside Cox and/or email blasts.
Utilizes strategic communications and events to help educate employees about Cox products and services.
Establishes, leverages and maintains strong partnerships with key departments and internal stakeholders/customers, including Center Public Affairs in Atlanta.
Supports the company’s employee communications efforts by participating regularly in New Hire Orientations, News Bureau calls/meetings, functional area meetings, etc.
Typical Training / Experience:
• Requires BS/BA in related discipline.
• 7+ years experience in public relations and/or journalism and/or corporate communications field
• Large-scale event planning experience
• Strong PR/journalism and creative writing skills (please have examples)
• Established connections with local media
• Experience writing speeches and talking points
• Requires BS/BA in related discipline and 5+ years experience in public relations and/or journalist and/or corporate communications field
