Responsible for finding, sourcing and creating compelling stories and visual elements (hyperlocal, local, regional and national) as a member of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Digital Production Team. This manager is an advocate for content selection including graphics, videos and data visualizations, wire content/services, and social media, as needed. This person will be able to spot topics and story ideas locally, regionally and across the country hours before they show up in everyone’s news feed.
This job is based in Atlanta; remote work is limited. Local candidate or one that will relocate to Atlanta is preferred.
Demonstrates strong news judgment, urgency and ability to enterprise and/or execute visually compelling journalism content that is accurate, fair and balanced.Displays high degree of proficiency in creating the right visual element to deliver high-quality, newsy, reader-focused content.Demonstrated editing ability, writing skills and deep knowledge of content selection, content creation, graphic creation, video production and social media.Demonstrates ability to keep up with digital trends and comfortably navigate in the digital world.Has ability to juggle priorities and assignments.Displays ability to translate various content elements into forms that fit various platforms such as websites, search engines/SEO, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and more. Shows ability to manage technical work with rigor and accuracy.Demonstrates ability to find and develop nationally trending stories and data and localize reporting for various CMG markets and properties.Displays strong collaboration skills in working with colleagues.Uncovers trending topics and story ideas and writes compelling content and headlines to drive audience via social media and other avenues.Has the ability to distill complicated news topics into mobile and web friendly stories in an engaging manner.Identifies content from third party sources that could drive audience.Has an eye for how headlines, text and photos play together to drive audience via social media.Stays up-to-date with the latest trends, developments and opportunities in the content management field.Understands how to create content for mobile display and drive users deeper into the site beyond just a single page view.Job Duties
Creates daily content through curation and wire services. Manage and direct content producers responsible for local and national content curation needs, including administrative tasks. Manages content presentation for digital platforms, with an eye for mobile presentation Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree preferred. (Journalism or related degree.)Three or more years of digital content production experience preferred.One or more years of leadership/management/coaching experience preferred.Previous editorial experience at a newspaper, television or radio station requiredExcellent communication and organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environmentStrong writing and editorial skillsExperience evaluating site metrics using various web analytics tools, including, but not limited to, Google Analytics and ChartbeatExperience in online content publishing and distributionKnowledge of HTML and Methode or other content management systems a plus
