Political Data Journalist
- Full Time
The Bangor Daily News is seeking a smart, curious data journalist to join a new three-person team focused on covering Maine politics and government and the state’s high-profile congressional delegation, breaking stories ahead of the competition and providing our audience with context and analysis.
If you are right for this challenge, this is how we would describe you: You are a strong reporter with experience in data visualization and predictive analytics using programming languages such as R or Python. You understand statistics. You can use data to tell stories that connect politics to Maine people and illuminate trends in government, elections and campaign finance. You can work as part of a team to use data to enhance daily and long-term stories. You can quickly become knowledgeable about state politics and politicians, build sources and develop content that engages and grows dedicated politics audiences.
We are Maine’s most-read media outlet, with a staff of journalists that stretches from the border of Canada to the boundaries of New Hampshire. We blanket Maine’s political, social, cultural and economic trends, drive our state’s public conversation, and hold our officials accountable. We are committed to informing our community, and we see this role as key to fulfilling that commitment.
We invite interested candidates to forward a cover letter, links to writing samples and a resume to BDN Vice President Jennifer Holmes.
