Develop, oversee and execute comprehensive and innovative national publicity campaigns with a strategic vision for Universal Pictures theatrical releases Regularly communicate publicity updates to senior level executives, filmmakers and talent Lead and supervise outside specialty publicity agencies with a responsibility to monitor their performance for the duration of each campaign Work closely with the national publicity teams in LA and NY, field, multi-cultural and digital teams to manage press participation in press screenings, press junkets, press mailings and premieres/eventsPlan and supervise all press junkets and press events (press conferences, stunts, press screenings) Oversee press coverage for all red carpet premieres and special events Plan and oversee publicity activities for film launches – i.e. trailer launches, film festivals, conventions and consInitiate and oversee awards campaigns on select films Stay abreast of and monitor the competitive landscape and have a strong knowledge of industry trends Supervise production publicity on films assigned to you (this includes overseeing unit publicists, and working closely with the photo editor to monitor unit photography and approvals and visiting sets when appropriate for coverage for big press moments – i.e. HFPA, etc) Actively lead and participate in brainstorming strategy sessions with members of the team Take the lead on communicating publicity initiatives to talent representatives and supervise the execution of publicity campaigns to ensure maximum talent participation Collaborate with and inform divisions of key publicity strategies and initiatives within marketing (media, creative, digital) as well as companywide divisions when applicable Collaborate and work in tandem with the International publicity team to build a cohesive worldwide campaignResponsible for speaking at filmmaker presentations and providing assets to create a narrative about the publicity portion of the campaignWork closely with the stills department to identify images for debuts and first looksWork closely with creative content team to identify clip selection and rolloutAttend press screenings of films and report reactions to filmmakers and internal executivesCreate screening strategies for assigned titles and communicate plans both to filmmakers and talent reps but also to internal executiveWork closely with International counterparts to establish review dates and press screening strategyManage the creation of global dates documents on titles assignedLead filmmakers calls and conversationsDevelop and oversee all budgets
Universal Pictures is seeking a seasoned and motivated SVP National Publicity executive who can create and execute strategic publicity and awards campaigns for feature film releases. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years’ experience in entertainment publicity and have strong relationships with A-list editors, bookers, journalists, and talent/filmmaker representatives. This executive must be able to work effectively as a team leader and as part of the larger publicity team.
• Minimum of 15 years of experience in entertainment publicity, some of which must be in film publicity (background working on specialized film campaigns is a plus)
• You will have extensive working knowledge of awards campaigns and have strong relationships with film critics, guilds, columnists and awards pundits
• Minimum of 5 years in a leadership position in a publicity department or at a PR agency
• Strong editorial relationships with the press corps
• Proven success at creating and executing innovative, strategic publicity campaigns
• Required Education: Bachelors Degree
