Reporting to the Executive Producer, a Part-Time Writer will write clear, concise and easy to understand stories with value clearly conveyed. Writers use process language in scripts with a focus on “new, now, next” to avoid newscasts and stories feeling repetitive or old
RESPONSIBILITIES: Write stories in all formats, conveying the value in the lead line or first ten seconds of the scriptRegularly showcase and execute process languageCoordinate with producers on assigned scripts to execute the direction and vision of each story Maximize use of graphics and pre-production to make the newscast clear and easy to understandConsistently integrate references/pushes to our digital and social media productsWork with production team to ensure that ideas can be executed with robotic cameras and control room automation system Use all resources possible to get the newest and best information into storiesContribute story ideasAttend editorial meetings if they fall within your regular shift and as time allows Learn to produce newscasts and fill-in produce as needed
Qualifications:Excellent writing skills, in terms of quality and proficiency Excellent news judgment Strong ability to conduct in-depth research and pursue stories effectively Strong ability to self-edit, with a strong knowledge of AP styleMust have the ability to work cooperatively with others and create a sense of teamwork in the presentation of various productions Proficiency using multimedia and social media toolsAbility to think quickly and respond appropriately in high-pressure situationsAbility to successfully work in a fast-paced, loosely structured, growing and changing work environmentMust have strong communication and interpersonal skills Must be a self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision but also able to work effectively within a team environmentMust possess a positive attitudeAbility to work a flexible schedule – nights, weekend, holidays as needed
