Full Description The Journalism Department at Purchase College-SUNY is seeking an assistant professor, tenure-track, to teach a range of multimedia journalism courses, including Broadcast News I & II. The ideal candidate will have significant experience with reporting, writing, shooting, editing and/or producing video packages, as well as instructing others how to do so. Teaching responsibilities include beginning and advanced courses in our undergraduate program. In addition, you will work with a small group of students on their senior projects, a yearlong independent study that is a signature feature of Purchase College; therefore, experience with long-form visual journalism is also essential. Preferred candidates will have a master's degree or higher, teaching and professional journalism experience that spans broadcast and other video platforms. Candidates should be well-versed in broadcast studio technology, adept at videography, and/or nonlinear editing.
Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from a four-year, accredited college or university. Candidates without a master's degree should have vast experience in journalism and teaching.
  • Experience working as a journalist in a broadcast setting or as a multimedia journalist. Candidates must be well-versed in broadcast studio technology, adept at videography and/or nonlinear editing, such as Adobe.
  • Some teaching experience, either in higher education or in the workplace.
  • Candidates must be able to combine teaching and storytelling skills in a journalistic context.


Preferred Qualifications

  • A master's degree or higher in Journalism or a related field.
  • At least five years' experience working as a broadcast or multimedia journalist.
  • Experience as a field producer or on-air reporter.
  • At least two semesters as a teacher of journalism at the undergraduate level or higher. Candidate will have taught reporting and writing for broadcast, nonlinear editing, and/or studio production.
  • Some experience reporting and writing in the medium of text (either print or online).


Brief Description of Duties To teach a range of undergraduate multimedia journalism courses that will cover reporting and writing, video journalism, and multiplatform content.
