Deputy Digital Platforms Editor

The Wall Street Journal seeks a deputy editor to help oversee our digital platforms and the editors who curate them, to ensure that we inform, engage and delight our members 24/7.
This editor will work with the Digital Platforms Editor to set and enforce high standards for our online article pages, making sure in particular that they are optimized for our mobile audience, and also to manage our digital front pages, making sure they are fresh, insightful and showcase the breadth of what the Journal has to offer. This editor should have a passion for digital journalism and the desire to lead innovation in the newsroom.
The deputy editor will be expected to pitch and execute ideas to improve reader experience on our digital platforms. They will represent the team in news, product and planning meetings and make sure that our journalism is distributed seamlessly. This editor understands and accounts for the nuances between mobile and desktop and works to give readers the best possible experience across platforms.
We are looking for someone who will help the team work efficiently, decisively and quickly, while directing, supporting, coaching and empowering other editors.
This editor employs superb news judgment and knowledge of audience data in programming decisions. They should have sharp writing and strong editing skills, and understand how to balance the needs of breaking news and enterprise journalism with our members in mind.
This role requires speed and proficiency with digital publishing tools, and a strong command of newsroom workflows. The successful candidate will be an advocate for the needs of our native platforms with coverage chiefs and an evangelist for digital storytelling in the newsroom. This person will also help on product initiatives for digital platforms and editorial tools.
This editor will direct and supervise the day-to-day work of platform editors and ensure it is of the highest quality, utmost timeliness and high ethical standards.
- Exercises superb judgment in packaging and presenting news, particularly on mobile.
