Position Summary

 

 

 

The Associate Digital Producer plays a key role as a member of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for publishing and promoting Center research across multiple digital platforms including the pewresearch.org web site, email newsletters and social media. The Associate Digital Producer will serve as an editorial and technical resource for digital production and product development needs across the Center and will work with researchers, writers, web developers and graphic designers to develop original digital products that clarify Center research. This position reports to the Associate Director, Digital, but works closely with representatives from across the organization – from researchers to user experience experts to communications staff. Occasional night and weekend hours may be required.

 

 


Responsibilities
Manage production workflow for multiple assigned research areas, overseeing report publication and digital product development of content and products that convey Pew Research data findings in innovative and accessible ways

 

Publish content to Pew Research websites using WordPress and other content management systems

 

Work with other producers as well as research and communications teams to generate concepts for digital features, identify strategic editorial goals, prioritize projects, and help allocate resources to specific projects

 

Collaborate with social media editor, audience and design teams to ensure all content is optimized for social media and search

 

Collaborate with UX, communications, editors, and digital analytics specialist to maintain and apply content taxonomy

 

Make updates to website home pages and section fronts

 

Perform quality control and copy-editing duties for all materials published

 

Develop a sophisticated understanding of WordPress and other Pew Research Center digital publishing systems

 

Provide training and support to less experienced users

 

 

 

Depending on specific business needs and specific skills and interest, Associate Digital Producers may also engage in some or all of the following

 

Publish email newsletters and other promotional materials

 

Work with digital analytics specialist to measure reach and impact of digital products

 

Copy editing of both long- and short-form content

 

Manage branded social media accounts, including creating and posting daily content and promoting new report releases

 

Draft blog posts, email newsletters, video scripts and website feature copy as needed

 

 

 

Education/Training/Experience

 

 

 

Bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism or related field

 

1-4 years digital production experience, ideally at a think tank, research or news organization. Candidates with 5+ years of experience may be considered at the “Digital Producer” level.

 

Experience with WordPress

 

Experience managing branded social media accounts

 

Experience conceiving, creating and editing innovative digital features and packages

 




Qualifications

 

  Demonstrated understanding of standards based HTML, CSS and search engine optimization

 

 

Strong news judgment, headline-writing skills, copy writing and editing skills

 

Familiarity with industry-standard digital production tools (Adobe CS, etc.)

 

Familiarity with social media (Buffer, Hootsuite, Sprout, etc.) and email marketing (MailChimp, Constant Contact, Eloqua, etc.)

 

Interest in emerging digital technologies and best-practices including content management, publication workflow, user-experience, social media marketing, audio/video, etc.

 

Basic understanding of fundamentals of information architecture and user-centric design

 

Experience with Google Analytics or other web analytics tools

 

Ability to meet deadlines with strict attention to detail and accuracy

 

Interest in Pew Research Center's diverse body of work and in exploring innovative ways of presenting data and research via digital channels

 

Familiarity with front-end coding tools and frameworks (JavaScript, d3, HighCharts, etc.) and/or managing digital workflows using GitHub or GitLab a plus
