The Web Specialist/Digital Specialist is a key member of the Digital Marketing team and will play a critical role in the success of City of Hope’s awareness, marketing and fundraising efforts as well supporting general online initiatives. 

The Web Specialist/Digital Specialist has demonstrated marketing, email and website management experience, combined with technical knowledge or skill, all of which is used to support and implement City of Hope’s strategic goals and clients’ Web-related needs, including web maintenance, web and email production and design, online marketing and advertising, and social media. 

The Web Specialist/Digital Specialist effectively liaisons and communicates with clients to ensure assigned  digital properties are effectively maintained and updated in a timely fashion informs team members of changes within client areas, implements new features or content as needed, and creates plans that bring about successful digital-based solutions.

The Web Specialist/Digital Specialist's responsibility will also be to support City of Hope’s growing email marketing program. He/she will be responsible for design, development and execution of emails to increase brand awareness and engagement, drive donations and event registrations.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Utilize several content management systems (Oracle WebCenter, Convio Luminate, Sales Force, SharePoint and WordPress) to build and maintain assigned web properties (internal or external); customize and enhance content with HTML as needed.

  • Applies web expertise to support client needs and objectives via published online content. Serves as a contact for assigned projects.

  • Designs and produces web graphics for websites,  emails, social media and other digital communications; produces content using Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Applies knowledge of and experience with principles of Web usability, architecture, search, and interfaces; and other functions related to digital marketing.

  • Communicates regularly with supervisors, clients and associates (team leaders/members) as needed to ensure all project aspects are clearly, mutually understood and agreed upon; provides status updates, so that deliverables will be on-time and potential issues are identified and addressed.

  • Follows City of Hope brand and guidelines on the Web and emails; ensures style guidelines are followed and project adheres to specifications and standards.  

  • Troubleshoots on various Web-related needs or issues.

  • Utilize Web analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics) to help make marketing decisions around Web content and creative.

  • Contributes to search engine optimization (SEO) of web content and search engine marketing (SEM) initiatives where applicable.

  • Manages other ad hoc digital-related projects as requested by colleagues or assigned by supervisor. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested, including those that may not be Web-related.

Email Production:

  • ​Produce emails: including coding (HTML, CSS), content sourcing, image editing and uploading, and copy editing/writing
  • Conduct thorough testing of email creative across devices, email clients and browsers

  •  Use enterprise email service platform to distribute mass emails to select audience groups, and to upload and manage email lists, conduct audience segmentation and A/B testing, and deploy and track email campaigns

  • Develop production schedules; develop processes and workflows to maximize output with available resources

  • Manage email production by partners and agencies as needed

  • Provide email channel and campaign metrics reports and analysis on a regular basis; provide detailed reporting of KPIs, campaigns, and results of A/B and multivariate testing

  • Provide recommendations for strengthening email performance and enhancing their effectiveness

  • Present results and recommendations to internal clients, partners and management

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Marketing, Communications, Digital Technology, Business, English or related field.  

  • Equivalent work experience may be substituted.

  • 2 - 5 years of digital, web and email marketing and production experience.  Three years general marketing experience. 

Preferred education experience and skills:

  • Integrated marketing, communications, public affairs, and/or advertising.

  • Knowledge of general digital online development processes. Demonstrated project management experience and direct client contact.  Writing and presentation experience. Experience in field of health care, biomedical science, and/or fund raising helpful. Experience with content marketing and SEO knowledge a plus.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.

  • Proven track record of excellent client diplomacy and relationship-building skills, requiring tact and courtesy. 

  • Must work well with people in different departments and at different levels.   

  • Culturally attuned to an academic medical center and medical providers.

  • Deft general project management skills; polished and diplomatic client management skills; solutions oriented, solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • High competency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator and InDesign.

  • Online and email marketing best practices and other functions related to digital marketing and communications.

  • Proven track record of success in supporting enterprise email marketing campaigns and programs 

  • Experience using email marketing and/or marketing automation platforms (e.g. Oracle Eloqua, Salesforce/ExactTarget, Luminate Online, Bronto, Responsys, Mailchimp) to manage email campaigns, distribute emails, manage subscriber records, segment audiences, conduct A/B and multivariate testing, generate reports and conduct analysis 

  • Strong web design/production/development skills; Intermediate experience with web programming languages (HTML, CSS). 

  • High level of attention to detail; high desire to meet the objectives and needs of internal clients and stakeholders; high desire to develop engaging online digital content and experiences.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Able to gather information and objectives, and formulate into marketing action plans.

  • Data analytics.
