The Communications department supports leaders at all levels of the institution to promote project and campaign efforts, inform key audiences, and protect and advance Pew's reputation. The department provides a comprehensive range of communications services for all programmatic and administrative units and Trusts-operated projects. Our in-house expertise includes: strategy and message development; editorial support; design and creative services; media event planning; digital and video production; and social media. The unit oversees all communications policies, guidelines, and processes in order to ensure production of the highest quality work and effectively steward Pew's resources.
This position, based in Pew's Washington, DC, office, reports to the Director, Communications, and is a member of the Pew communications staff supporting the work of the institutional and strategy group. She/he will contribute to a range of communications reports and projects. Specifically, the Associate will conduct media research and analysis; prepare, proof and edit regular reports; support events, maintain relevant media databases; and contribute to both internal and external communications strategies. This individual will collaborate with colleagues across Pew to ensure quality work and will interact frequently with senior management across the institution in the United States and around the world.
- Performs daily monitoring of media clips, analyzes media coverage, and compiles and distributes media reports for Pew's senior leadership.
- Compiles, drafts and coordinates various other media and institutional reports. These projects may include coordination with the Communications department's senior leadership.
- Assists with research, planning and logistics for institutional public events and internal communications sessions.
- Provides support--such as compiling media outreach lists, and conducting messaging, media markets, and other strategic communications research—that benefits Pews' programmatic efforts.
- Helps manage Communications department content on Pew's intranet site.
- Oversees incoming public requests/media inquiries email inboxes.
- Provides assistance for a range of special projects as assigned by the Communications Vice President and Director.
- Works on other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of one year of communications experience required.
- Excellent oral and writing skills to effectively communicate within and outside the organization.
- Experience with media monitoring software systems, such as Cision, and knowledge of Associated Press style a plus.
- Demonstrated high attention to detail with strong performance in producing materials under deadline and without errors.
- Able to set short- and long-term planning goals in line with program priorities and institutional procedures. A task-oriented style, with a focus on achieving clear and ambitious goals.
- Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines by maintaining a high level of organization and managing time effectively. Able to develop and move projects forward with independence and autonomy.
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to develop and manage productive relationships with members of Pew's communications, programmatic and administrative teams, consultants, and others involved in developing or implementing the communication efforts of Pew. Excellent listening skills. Ability to exhibit skills of diplomacy. Able to work productively as part of a team and individually as well as with a wide array of different people throughout the institution.
- Seasoned judgment, able to make decisions, justify recommendations, and be responsive, clear and firm with colleagues.
Minimal travel anticipated.
