For over 50 years, PBS has been a leader in delivering educational media that helps prepare kids for school and life. At PBS, the Children’s Media & Education group works extensively with early childhood education experts, advisors, classroom practitioners and award-winning producers to develop developmentally appropriate shows, games and activities.  PBS local member stations provide enriching services to connect families and communities with PBS KIDS characters, stories, and games. Family and community engagement initiatives with local stations and partners provide meaningful support to families, teachers, and, importantly, children, as they gather to learn and “play the shows” they see on broadcast and online.

 To continue innovating across early learning on air, online, and in person, PBS Education is seeking a Director, Early Learning Solutions.  A successful candidate has extensive experience in early learning content and curriculum development, program implementation, and digital development.  The Director, Early Learning Solutions will collaborate across broadcast, digital, and community engagement teams to develop, test, and iterate on integrated, flexible learning programs for PreK children and the grown-ups in their lives, with a particular emphasis on curating and delivering a best-in-class content experience.

 A successful candidate thrives in a cross-functional work environment, sets ambitious and measurable goals, is well-versed in agile/iterative processes, and relentlessly seeks user feedback in order to continuously improve content and experiences.  As the Director, Early Learning Solutions tracks the impact of various solution options, he/she/they will work with the Senior Director, Content and Curriculum Strategy to expand program reach to PBS stations, educators, caregivers, families, and communities nationwide.  

 

Essential duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • With the Senior Director, Content & Curriculum Strategy, PBS Education and a cross-section of stakeholders, craft the vision for PBS KIDS program and curriculum model(s) to improve Kindergarten Readiness in communities
  • Actively collaborate with PBS KIDS digital, broadcast, marketing, station relations, and community teams to co-develop program models that meet children and families where they are
  • Leverage PBS curriculum frameworks to curate PBS KIDS content towards identified learning goals
  • Collaborate to determine requirements with, and serve as stakeholder to, digital development teams
  • Support stations and partners with program implementation, growing relationships and leveraging best practices in professional learning
  • Collaborate with internal marketing, station relations, professional learning, and teacher community & engagement teams and provide support across PBS Children’s Media & Education initiatives designed to reach, engage, and support teachers and caregivers
  • Manage vendors as needed
  • Stay up to date on trends with early learning curriculum and content standards, teacher needs, instructional strategies, professional association initiatives (NAEYC, NHSA, Child Care Aware, ISTE, and more), digital learning solutions, and overall state of school, care center policies and education market developments
  • Other duties as assigned
  •  

    Requirements for success:

    • 10+ years experience in the PreK-5 education field required
    • 5+ years’ experience developing learning content online, on air, and/or in print
    • 2+ years’ experience delivering digital products
    • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field; Master's degree preferred
    • Cross-functional (digital, event planning) project/program management skills
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to details
    • Resourceful, self-directed and skillful team player
    • Excellent time management skills
    • Ability and flexibility to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Tactfulness when responding to questions and concerns
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Proficient in understanding and utilization of digital media and the Web
    • Proficient in using CMS and basic HTML
    • Excellent writing and editing skills
    • Teacher training and/or classroom experience a plus
    • Agile Development Process training a plus
