SVP Product Development

HMH’s Supplemental and Intervention Solutions Group (SIS) incorporates all of the functional areas that work together to develop supplemental, intervention and assessment products for PreK-12. The group has a “digital first” focus but offers blended solutions across all subject areas. Content is developed for all current interactive digital media formats and platforms.
The SVP of Product Development for SIS will lead the product development teams for the portfolio of products and will be responsible for leading innovative, market-responsive and competitive product development for HMH’s SIS portfolio. The product development teams include Instructional Design and Content teams, User Experience Design and Project Management.
The SVP will ensure that the portfolio roadmap and resourcing is aligned with the company’s overall learning outcomes goals and strategies and work together with product management and product marketing to establish and deliver on that roadmap with respect to design, content, timeframe and budget. He or she will directly supervise the work of the leaders of each of the teams and will forecast and manage staffing for work across the portfolio. Additionally, the SVP will represent the portfolio when cross-functional teams are assembled during the product development lifecycle.
EVP and General Manager, Supplemental and Intervention Solutions Group
Supervises, mentors, guides, and advises the leadership team and their staff
Works with team to establish specific content development road maps, timeframes, milestones and goals for all products
Coordinates with the EVP to ensure that each of the product development plans, goals, and strategies and the work of the teams are fully aligned with the overall product portfolio strategy and business goals
Provides thought leadership, subject area content expertise and best-practice development processes in support of product development
Leads his or her team by providing the following: analysis, definition, and coordination of pedagogical features for the programs the broader framework culled from the input of product management, sales, marketing, learning science and research to guide the team in integrating these factors into their content development work;
Represents the content portfolio’s interests and initiatives as a member of cross-functional teams and initiatives; Supervises 4-8 direct reports and guide the development of their goals and objectives; conducts performance reviews and meetings on a regular basis and provide mentoring and coaching to facilitate their professional development and success.
Relevant Experience & Skills:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education or relevant discipline, master’s degree or higher preferred
Teacher training experience helpful
10+ years proven management experience with respect to leading teams engaged in content and learning solutions development
8+ years educational content development that includes experience working with ed tech
Experience developing learning solutions for the K-12 market in both print and digital formats
Strong leadership skills with the capability of developing, coaching and managing others effectively in a matrix environment
Strong organizational skills and knowledge of sales, marketing, design, and production issues as it relates to the development of successful curriculum
Strong verbal and written communication
Ability to act as an effective and empathetic change agent within an organization
Proven collaborative attitude and skills across diverse groups and within team environments sharing a common goal.
