Sr. Director, Multiplatform Content & Production

 

Team: Multiplatform Marketing & Content

Status: Full-time/Regular/Exempt

 

The Sr. Director of Multiplatform Content & Production leads content development, production, editorial scheduling and content marketing across all PBS-branded platforms; this includes PBS.org, series websites, PBS social media accounts and email newsletters.  This role is responsible for “lighting up every screen” to reach, engage and retain digital audiences by delivering an exceptional user experience and engaging, platform-optimized content, all with an eye toward supporting PBS member stations.

 

Essential duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the PBS editorial/brand voice on all digital platforms
  • Develop editorial/content marketing strategies for PBS.org, PBS-branded social accounts and seasonal thematic initiatives, e.g. heritage month activations.
  • Manage the leadership team responsible for ongoing creation, curation and calendaring of content across all platforms.
  • Create and execute genre-focused strategies to showcase the diverse spectrum of PBS content to a range of targeted affinity audiences across arts, history, science, drama, food, culture, documentaries and news.
  • Lead email newsletter marketing efforts to promote PBS programming priorities to drive broadcast and digital viewership.
  • Manage high-level relationships with producers to ensure digital strategy, social media best practices and web production standards are understood and followed.
  • Provide senior-level guidance in the creation and execution of digital strategies and social campaigns for direct-to-PBS programs from independent producers.
  • Evaluate, develop, and reinforce PBS Digital policies and procedures to ensure consistent and effective use of editorial standards and best practices across web and social media producers by our producing partners.
  • Work across departments to ensure digital experiences are seamlessly integrated into programming and marketing strategies.

Requirements for success:

    • A minimum of 10 years of managerial experience and combined experience in one or more of the following areas is required: managing the development of digital content, web production, social media strategy, marketing and promotions.
    • Broadcast television/online media industry experience required.
    • Bachelor of Arts, Degree in journalism, film, communications, marketing, or related discipline or equivalent experience.
    • Understanding of web publishing including SEO, metadata, and project management
    • Experience creating, editing, and publishing content for the web and social media; knowledge of what works where, and what each platform does best
    • Exceptional editorial judgment and content programming skills
    • Ability to develop plans, capture and analyze data, summarize findings and implement initiatives
    • Experience managing budgets, contracts, and high-touch business relationships
    • Proven leadership experience and evolved team development skills
    • Creative thinker who is not afraid to take informed risks
    • Resourceful, self-directed and flexible team player
    • Ability to work collaboratively and diplomatically with all levels of management
    • Exceptional communication skills including public speaking
    • Track record of success in evangelizing for experimentation and innovation
    • Proven time management and project management skills, effectively meeting deadlines as priorities evolve and shift
