- Full Time
The New Republic is expanding our team and looking for an experienced full-time writer for a forthcoming vertical devoted to the climate crisis. We’re looking for someone who can pivot between coverage of the latest science, policy, and political developments to writing thoughtfully about the far-reaching consequences and implications of a warming world: ethical dilemmas, cultural trends, affected communities, and so on.
The writer will be expected to produce three to four pieces per week, sometimes doing "quick hits" in response to news items, and sometimes working with our editors to craft longer, more complex narratives or arguments. The ideal applicant is a compelling essayist, a thorough reporter, and an incisive analyst. Applicants should also have a track record of promoting their work on social media.
To apply, please submit your résumé, five clips, and a cover letter explaining why you’re right for this job. Only candidates who submit cover letters will be considered.
The New Republic is committed to diversity and encourages members of underrepresented communities to apply, including women, LGBTQ people, people of color, people with criminal records, veterans and people with disabilities.
This position will be covered by a collective-bargaining agreement between The New Republic and The NewsGuild of New York, CWA Local 31003, AFL-CIO. It is open to internal and external candidates.
