Job Summary:

As a joint member of the communications and editorial teams, the editorial and communications assistant is key personnel for ensuring that the language used in institutional communications and publications meets the organization’s high standards for quality and correctness. The editorial and communications assistant will help ensure correct and consistent language in external communications, assist in the organization’s content management process, and will promote GMF activities and content through newsletter and other communications channels.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities (in order of importance):

  • Copyedit and line edit GMF content, to include research publications, blogs, program summaries and other web content, event agendas, list of participants, bios, and email invitations and newsletters. [35%]
  • Manage external email strategy for GMF, including assembly of weekly newsletter and working with programs on mass email communications. Monitor email metrics and make recommendations to improve performance. [20%]
  • Lay out publications using Adobe InDesign [20%]
  • Input timelines for GMF’s research publications and blogs, and other communications activities, as well as GMF events in Europe into the Master Organizational Calendar. [10%]
  • Amplify GMF activities through other communications activities, including social media, writing, conducting interviews, and photography. [10%]
  • Produce and distribute internal newsletter, GMF’s Weekly Agenda, and other internal reporting documents. Report out to communications team and other key stakeholders on editorial content planning. [5%]

Knowledge and Skills Needed:

  • Experience copy and line editing policy publications and web content
  • Native English speaker (American English preferred) with strong editorial skills
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud applications
  • Strong organizational and strategic planning skills
  • Strong research ability
  • Experience in drafting social media posts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) and creating digital content strategies
  • Experience in managing communications for conferences and events, including photographing, managing logistics, amplifying on social media, and coordinating press
  • Experience in writing web content
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, growing, and team-based environment
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines, and to operate with minimal guidance
  • Minimum 1-2 years related experience


  • B.A. degree in English, journalism, international relations, security studies, or a related field required
