Motion Graphics Designer

ABOUT THE ROLE
You’ll work across multiple platforms, supporting the digital, social, and broadcast efforts of the PBS NewsHour. Your smart and engaging graphics will accompany editorial and social posts for our digital team. You’ll not only be designing charts, maps, and other daily news presentations, you’ll be design motion graphics for social and editorial video projects. We also want you to think outside the box to propose and update new features for various PBS NewsHour graphics packages and style guides.
YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS
You’ll get to know your team and the wider organization, and how each group functions independently as well as part of the whole. You’ll establish key relationships with your peers. You’ll learn our design style and start brainstorming ways to update our graphics packages and style guides.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Your designs have brought a new energy to our digital content. You are not only meeting, but beating deadlines and have learned to think one step ahead of our producers. You’ve done your research and have proposed improvements to processes, procedures, style guides, graphics packages, etc.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Strong typography skills.
- Expert knowledge with Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects.
- Strong understanding of mobile and desktop user behavior.
- Knowledge of responsive web design standards.
- An interest in journalism and public media.
