Chief Editor – Nature Reviews Methods Primers
London, Berlin, New York

Nature Research, the publisher of Nature, is looking to recruit a Chief Editor for Nature Reviews Methods Primers, a new journal that will launch in 2021.

Nature Reviews Methods Primers will join our highly influential family of Nature Reviews journals, renowned for their editorial quality and supported by best-in-class artwork.

Following the successful launch of Nature Reviews Disease Primers (https://www.nature.com/nrdp/) in 2015, the Primers concept is being extended with the launch of Nature Reviews Methods Primers. Our aim in launching Nature Reviews Methods Primers is to publish commissioned overview articles—called Primers—each covering a method or technology in the sciences or engineering, accompanied by a graphical summary called PrimeView. Primers provide an authoritative introduction to a method for the benefit of students and scientists, providing readers with everything they need to know to evaluate, select and apply a method, and complement the more-focused, specialized articles that are published by the other Nature Reviews titles.

To help realize this vision, we require an ambitious, dynamic Chief Editor who will develop, launch and establish Nature Reviews Methods Primers as the leading publication in the field. The successful candidate will have an excellent research record, including a PhD in a relevant area, and strong leadership qualities. Previous editorial and/or managerial experience is a distinct additional advantage. The job will be based in our modern London offices.

This demanding and stimulating role calls for a keen interest in the practice and communication of science; a key aspect of the job is interacting with the scientific community and attending international conferences. The successful candidate must, therefore, be dynamic and outgoing, be prepared to travel, and have excellent interpersonal skills.

Applicants for the Chief Editor position should send: a CV; a statement (1,500 words maximum) that encapsulates your vision for the journal’s content, competitive position and longer-term development; 15 commissioning ideas for Primers, including suggested titles and authors, across the breadth of the journal scope and a brief rationale for each idea; and a cover letter that details their salary expectations and explains why they think they are suitable for the position.

Closing Date: 4th October 2019

If you are an internal candidate please inform your line manager of your application.
