Overview

Canon U. S. A., Inc. is currently seeking a Public Relations Specialist (Specialist, Public Relations) to join our corporate HQ in Melville, NY. The Public Relations Specialist implements the public relations plans for Canon to help build and maintain a favorable public image. Candidate should demonstrate strong writing skills for development of media messages, press releases, byline and thought leadership articles and other press materials, creating and disseminating media coverage reports and fielding incoming media inquiries in support of the BICG business. Candidate will identify and manage publicity opportunities that promote the Company and its products in print and online publications including, but not limited to, business journals, retail/business trade media outlets, industry analyst reports, enthusiast magazines, and over mainstream electronic media.

 

Responsibilities

- Requires daily interaction with key industry analysts, mainstream business and trade media, from proactive pitching of product and Company news to the coordination of press events, press conferences and analyst events
- Helps develop communications materials, including press releases, pitch letters, messaging documents, case studies, feature articles and trend stories
- Acts as a public relations contact for new product introductions, product launches to enhance and support sales objectives. He/she will prepare press releases, coordinate national and regional press announcements and respond to media inquiries from press and industry analysts
- Develops and attends trade show press briefings, managing pressroom accommodations, and conducting post show follow-up
- May require considerable travel throughout sales territory (valid driver's license and acceptable driving record necessary). Additionally, because this position requires driving for company business as an essential function of the job, must remain in compliance with company safety guidelines and policies

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or public relations; or equivalent experience required
- A minimum of 4 years public relations experience is required
- This position will require the incumbent to travel about 25 percent of the time
