Job Title: Chief Editor
Organisation: Nature Computational Science
Location: London, New York, or Berlin
Springer Nature, the publisher of Nature, is looking to recruit a Chief Editor for Nature Computational Science, a new journal for scientists and engineers that will launch in 2021.
Nature Computational Science will publish exceptional research on the development of new computational techniques, methodologies, algorithms and tools, and their application to address problems across a range of scientific disciplines.
The journal will provide a high visibility publishing venue for authors who work across the boundaries of scientific computing, mathematics, and the natural sciences, providing readers with a complete overview of the latest advances in computational science.
Like other Nature Research titles, Nature Computational Science will publish reviews, News and Views and commentaries, creating a forum that will help accelerate the cross disciplinary application of new computational techniques and approaches. The journal will champion reproducibility through code peer review, as well as code and data sharing.
To help realize this exciting vision, we require an ambitious, dynamic Chief Editor, who will develop, launch and establish Nature Computational Science as the leading publication covering all aspects of the new journal. The role holder may be based in one of our main offices in London, New York or Berlin.
Applicants must have a PhD and preferably postdoctoral experience, with a strong track record in research relevant to the fields covered in the journal and listed above. Previous editorial and/or managerial experience is an additional advantage.
The successful applicant will lead an editorial team and work closely with them on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection, commissioning and editing of Reviews and News & Views, and writing for the journal. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the scientific community through laboratory visits and international conferences — willingness to travel is essential.
Working within a dynamic editorial and publishing environment that also includes Nature, Nature Machine Intelligence, Nature Electronics and Nature Biotechnology among others, this demanding and stimulating role calls for a keen interest in the practice and communication of science. The successful candidate will be dynamic and have excellent interpersonal skills. Broad scientific knowledge and training, excellent literary skills and the ability to absorb new areas of research are prerequisites.
Applicants should send a CV; a statement (1,500 words) that encapsulates their vision for the journal’s content, competitive position and longer-term development; and a brief cover letter explaining their interest in the post and their salary expectations.
The closing date for applications is 23 September 2019.
If you are an internal candidate please inform your line manager of your application.
