Creative Director, Digital and Print Media

The American Dental Association is dedicated to promoting the public's health through its initiatives in research, education, advocacy, public awareness and the development of standards.

This position will guide the development and evolution of the design of the ADA's print and digital publications. This position directs teams to create breakthrough digital experiences and develop interactive design solutions, including websites, newsletters, infographics, interactive graphics, social media, and print media that engage audiences and drive traffic. This position delivers on business goals and objectives by understanding audience needs and reader journeys through print and digital content.

This position will collaborate closely with the ADA editorial, production, sales, and custom-content teams to deliver unique storytelling solutions. In addition, this position will collaborate with ADA IT and Communications divisions to produce digital platforms that conform to ADA standards, work with ADA technology, and enhance the ADA digital member experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/BA with a minimum of 10 years' progressive managerial experience in digital design.
  • Experience transforming a print-centric team to digital design.
  • Experience creating mobile-responsive templates and designs for web, e-newsletters, infographics, and interactive graphics that work on all commonly used devices and browsers.
  • Experience using metrics to drive traffic and increase engagement of digital media.
  • Experience creating integrated, Omnichannel campaigns.
  • Experience in print and graphic design also required.
  • Experience in .com and mobile design as well as UX design.
  • Some experience with ideation, research, and creative conceptualization in both publishing and advertising.
  • Must have the ability to: meet deadlines and produce high quality, engaging graphics and digital products; interact professionally and collaboratively with colleagues in production, editorial, custom content, communications and IT; work with sales staff, and advertisers; deal with ambiguity/paradox; drive for results; and solve complex issues on the fly.
  • Must be able to analyze metrics and use data to support business decisions. Coach, mentor, and work as a change agent.
  • Ability to work in a complex, member-driven association is also essential.
  • Deep knowledge of the publishing industry, with particular knowledge of the latest trends in digital media
  • Knowledge of graphic design principles for print and digital media essential.
  • Excellent planning, leadership, project & time management, peer relationship, and collaboration skills a must.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of rights, permissions, photo/illustration credits, and photo/video releases.
  • An overall understanding of Web production and capabilities within digital channels and best practices for responsive design are also required.
  • Expertise in B2B environments and expertise overseeing the design, development, and evolution of digital and print platforms as well as B2B capabilities including lead-generation, thought leadership, custom research, and influencer marketing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (WORD, EXCEL & PowerPoint), HTML, CSS, & Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience with content management systems, stock art libraries, rights, permissions, photo and video releases, source credits, and licenses

Highly Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of JAVA a plus
  • Tableau or other interactive graphical software highly desirable
  • HubSpot or similar HTML email program highly desirable.
