Status: Full-time, Contractor, funded through June 2020


Note: The individual selected for this role will not be employed directly by PBS. The incumbent will be hired by a staffing firm as a contractor under the instruction of PBS.


PBS Education provides PreK-12 educators with access to free digital content and professional development opportunities designed to improve teacher effectiveness and student achievement. PBS LearningMedia (PBSLM) is a PBS Education initiative designed to develop a system-wide repository of digital education content and support the distribution of the content through digital services offered by local public television stations. PBS Education is in search of a Media & Content Coordinator to help implement PBS’s strategy around serving teachers of 6-12th grade English, Language Arts, Social Studies, Civics, History, and Media Arts.


The Media & Content Coordinator will support the Associate Director, Content Development for middle and high school grades to ensure maximum impact of PBS Education products and services. This includes researching, advising on, and executing content flow of educator resources to maximize their end-user value. The Media & Content Coordinator works collaboratively with the PBSLM content team to provide editorial support services to PBSLM contributors, including the preparation, organization, and ingestion of assets to PBSLM.


Essential duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Project management of content additions and changes shared on PBS LearningMedia platform
  • Analyze current PBSLM content offering for user experience and evident content value
  • Work closely with the PBSLM content team to provide quality assurance for PBS Education resources.
  • Manages media and other assets from draft stages into final production and distribution on PBS LearningMedia
    • Collect asset links and files and complete quality assurance review
    • Write and edit required metadata or proof the accuracy of provided metadata, including some on-screen text
    • Collect or create thumbnail images
    • Upload content to the LM content management system (CMS)
    • Revise projects on LM and in the CMS, as needed.
  • Supports content contributors, including contractors and PBS Member Stations, on authoring best practices on PBSLM’s CMS
    • Assist with communication, on-boarding, training and support activities to ensure a positive experience for PBSLM content contributors
    • Provide review and timely feedback to contributors on content ingestion process
    • Ensure that questions from the contributors are addressed in a timely and solution focused manner
  • Support tasks, as needed, including:
    • Captioning files to LM specs
    • Execute tasks in Google analytics
    • Support Marketing campaigns and other Marketing needs
    • Track and file invoices and content contributor agreements

Requirements for success:

  • 2-5 years of professional experience including in an Editorial environment with education-focused content
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field of study
  • Knowledge of the Grades 6-12 education field highly preferred
  • Experience producing online and/or digital web content
  • Experience writing materials for publication online and/or in print
  • Experience in instructional design techniques, with a preference for experience with virtual learning environments
  • Experience with Editorial procedures and content production processes
  • Knowledge of the middle and high school learning marketplace and national learning standards
  • Knowledgeable about educational needs of teachers
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly in the ability to offer constructive, clear, diplomatic feedback
  • Strong understanding of the use of digital resources in the classroom
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to details
  • Ability to manage timelines and overlapping deliverables with precision
  • Resourceful, self-directed, and skillful team player
  • Tactfulness and diplomacy when responding to questions and concerns
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Experience working in or with public broadcasting preferred
