Do you have a passion for presidential politics? NBC News Digital seeks an exceptional and experienced politics/campaign reporter.
The candidate must have a strong knowledge of the national political map; the primary and general election processes; the roles of the national parties; operatives at the state and national levels; activist groups, the candidates and their campaigns; conventions, debates and everything else that comes into play in a presidential campaign cycle.
The position will be based in Washington or New York, with much or most of the time spent on the campaign trail.
Experience covering one or more previous presidential campaigns is a plus.
Generate original story ideas and develop fresh angles for reported pieces.
Travel the country in search of great political stories.
Cultivate sources and contacts to bring home exclusives.
Be a self-starter hungry to break news, and pitch and report stories that are original, sharp and distinct.
-Minimum six years of political/campaign reporting experience.
-A track record of scoops.
-Strong writing skills - ability to write focused, muscular stories on tight deadlines, along with crafting long-form stories with voice and style - original, sharp and distinct.
-Deep knowledge of campaign politics and presidential election cycles is essential.
