Role Purpose
The Cloud Video Engineer will be responsible for building and supporting business critical video systems and video-related cloud solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with NBC D2C engineering and technical teams to implement frameworks to create and manage live event streams and 24x7 linear streams delivered directly to the consumer
  • Design and deliver cloud and on-prem solutions
  • Work with technology partners, site engineers, and vendors to implement smart technology solutions and tools
  • Work with NBC internal digital media teams (advertising operations, analytics, research) to deliver and train on solutions across D2C and Playmaker digital properties


  • Basic Qualifications
    • Expertise with live video workflows in the cloud and in on-prem/off-prem environments
      • Experience with VMAF and SSIM video quality measurement tools
      • Cloud development experience is required, VOD video experience is a plus
      • Expertise with digital streaming video delivery, video origin architecture, and issues of scale for live video delivery
      • Experience with at least 2 major clouds, expertise in one: GCP, Azure, or AWS
      • Experience assessing and comparing native PaaS offerings of different cloud providers with cloud-enabled traditional infrastructure
      • Experience with at least 2 major cloud providers, expertise in one: GCP, Azure, or AWS
      • Experience assessing and comparing native PaaS offerings of different cloud providers with cloud-enabled traditional infrastructure
      • Experience designing cloud infrastructure using industry best practices with a focus on Cloud migrations, deployments, and automation
      • Experience researching new cloud technologies and prototyping solutions that maximize ROI
      • Experience cloud-based with live encoding workflows including dynamic ad insertion
      • Experience with encoding profiles, bitrate ladders, and video compression technologies
      • Experience with scripting and light coding to support software workflows, especially Java, Node.js, or Python. Serverless, Docker, and Kubernetes experience a plus
      • Knowledge of dynamic ad insertion, both client-side and server-side, technical architecture and design implications for each
      • Experience with web technologies, digital video workflow and operations, and digital video technology development
      • Knowledge of basic network concepts, as they apply to video delivery
      • Comfort with the Software Development Life Cycle and software-based tools and workflows
      • Strong quantitative, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS or related degree
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skIlls
      • Certification in AWS, Azure, or GCP a plus
      • Experience in Broadcast Television & Digital Operations a plus
      • Ability to work independently under minimum supervision and proactive in solving issues
      • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work across multiple groups and levels in organization
