We are currently seeking a seeking a dynamic Communications Specialist to join our HCZ communications team. The Communications Specialist will work closely with HCZ leadership to develop and execute communications programs that inform and engage employees across the organization. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and a creative, strategic thinker who is comfortable working across all levels of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a communications strategy that articulates internal plans to increase employee awareness, drive engagement and foster culture
  • Identify issues and events that require communications with employees
  • Work with Human Resources and IT teams to develop a standardized communications process and optimize traditional and new employee communication channels
  • Create an internal data collection and reporting mechanism, including a system for measuring employee engagement with internal communications
  • Liaise with other staff across HCZ to identify events, news, and developments that can support external communication plans
  • Provide perspective, guidance and recommendations on internal communications about various issues relevant to key internal stakeholders
  • Engage with internal partners to ensure all messaging is clear and always aligned with HCZ’s overall objectives, culture and values
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership and executing comprehensive communications plans
  • Nonprofit experience highly desired
  • Ability to work through, synthesize, and narrate complex issues or new initiatives with a sense of ownership, drive and urgency
  • Proactive go-getter energized by the opportunity to be part of a dynamic, results-driven, entrepreneurial culture where change is rapid
  • Superior project management skills juggling many different initiatives, competing priorities across several teams
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff members at all levels
  • Budget and operations experience are a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite and media platforms
  • Passion for and commitment to the mission of the Harlem Children’s Zone
