Role Purpose
The Senior Video Workflow Engineer will be responsible for architecting, building, delivering, and supporting business critical video systems and video-related solutions and platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Establish a leadership role within the NBC Sports Digital technology team, setting technical standards, developing group strategy, and leading key implementations for digital, direct-to-consumer video delivery solutions
  • Collaborate with NBC Sports product, editorial, and business teams to prioritize business needs and to create the design, project plans and budget for these solutions
  • Lead requirements gathering, data analysis and modeling; work with technology partners, site engineers, and vendors to design and implement smart technology solutions and tools
  • Lead execution teams to deliver cloud and on-prem solutions
  • Establish a close partnership with NBC internal digital media teams (advertising operations, analytics, research) to drive technology strategy across NBC Sports and Playmaker digital properties


  • Basic Qualifications
    • Minimum six (6) years’ experience in technical design, requirements gathering, business and technical analysis, and operations
    • Expertise with web technologies, digital video workflow and operations, and digital video technology development
    • Minimum three (3) years of experience with VOD and live video workflows in the cloud and in on-prem/off-prem environments
    • Expertise with live video delivery, video origin architecture, and issues with scaling live video delivery
    • Experience with VOD direct-to-consumer delivery solutions
    • Expertise with dynamic ad insertion, both client-side and server-side, and the technical architecture and design implications for each
    • Experience performing video quality analysis
    • Experience with a variety of encoders including FFMPEG, Elemental, Harmonic, etc.
    • Strong understanding of codecs and containers for over-the-top (OTT) delivery
    • Experience implementing and deploying encryption and DRM solutions
    • Broad knowledge of a wide variety of web delivery and video platforms, including Avid, Signiant, Aspera, Drupal, Freewheel, Flash, HTML5
    • Experience working with multiple CDN vendors, knowledge of CDN features and toolsets, and an understanding of CDN architecture concepts and strategies
    • Intimate knowledge of emerging technologies & trends
    • Strong quantitative, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
    • Demonstrated experience with leading business through change

    • Cloud development experience will be strongly considered
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS or related degree
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience in Broadcast Television & Digital Operations a plus
    • Ability to work independently under minimum supervision and proactive in solving issues
