JCC Association of North America is seeking a Senior Writer to share the story of the JCC Movement—showcase the ideas of our forward-facing leadership, represent the expertise behind the work of our agency, and promote the programs and innovations we are leading to strengthen Jewish life in North America. The role requires someone who is a confident writer; capable of authoring an organization/brand voice, ghostwriting for leadership, creating pithy copy when needed, headlining social media posts for added buzz, and sometimes literally putting words into the mouths of others. This position requires a professional who writes for the love of the agency’s mission and not for their own ego. The personality for this role is someone who enjoys working with others, adding their voice to the those at the table, and knows when they need to stay late and step up to help lead. And lastly, this position will allow a mid-level professional to build their place in the organization, add to their portfolio, and grow into a director of communication role.

  • Brand Image: Website content development, collateral, promotion
  • Agency: Intra agency communications, affiliation/clientele messaging, limited proofing /editing
    Public Relations: Assisting the work of our media partner, op-eds, releases, announcements…
  • Events: Scripting for major meetings and assemblies, promotion for recruitment
  • Leadership communications: Editorial direction, information gathering, top edits, and brand awareness
  • Fundraising: Support appeals, written grants and sponsorship profiles from our Fundraising team
  • Social media: Capture and share the moment


This role will report to the Chief Marketing Officer and work within the marketing and communications team, collaborating with all members. The position will support the strategic tactics of the agency’s media partner. The senior writer’s work will target the internal and external audiences as appropriate for agency needs. The writer will work directly with president and CEO, Doron Krakow to support his weekly communications. The writer will be a point of contact for all language and copy representing the agency.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Supporting agency-wide communication strategies
  • Ensuring a consistent voice for all written materials
  • Building the substance for e-blast promotions
  • Content building for websites
  • Seasonal/holiday messaging on behalf of the organizations and program areas
  • Help move the organization from a traditional marketing mindset to a forward-thinking digital approach
  • Weekly CEO (or guest) Shabbat Shalom or Shavua Tov communications: gathering of information, editing content, and distribution via ListServ or MailChimp
  • Contribute to the scripting process for major events such as JSummit and Professional Conference
  • Limited review and proofing of documents as needed, and supervision of the editing product of outside freelancers
  • Provide the JCC field with PR templates to support major JCC Association events, trainings, and grant awards
  • Distribute limited messaging through our generic email account to the JCC field


  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Communications, Marketing or related field
  • 5+ years communications experience
  • English must be a first language or at expert level proficiency
  • Possess a writing portfolio that demonstrates your ability to write in the voice and tone of others.
  • Team collaboration experience
  • Hard working with a “no task is too small”/ “How can I help” attitude
  • Extensive knowledge of the institutions and leaders within the Jewish organizational world
  • Fluent in social media
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Word and Office platform
  • Familiarity with or interest in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Knowledge of MailChimp, ListServs and other email distribution platforms
  • Familiarity with WordPress
  • Experience in stakeholder/community engagement
  • Be extremely organized, and pay extreme attention to details; grammar, vocabulary, and presentation.
  • Must be able to work at JCC Association’s offices and live in the tri-state area

Other Experience and Skills:

  • Some knowledge of Hebrew
  • Basic WordPress knowledge
  • Script formatting

Application Requirements:

  • Please share four samples of work; one demonstrating your own writing style and personality and three showcasing your ability to write on the behalf of others, organizations or causes—at least one of the samples should have been created for digital distribution
  • Be prepared to share three references from senior professionals
  • If selected for further review, you will be asked to participate in a paid sample communication project to see how you approach your work, coordinate with others and the style of your content
  • As part of the interview process you may be asked to meet with senior leadership from the organization including the CEO.
