Midwest Bureau Chief
- Full Time
The Wall Street Journal is seeking an experienced journalist to join its U.S. news leadership team as Midwest Bureau Chief. The editor will run the Journal’s coverage across a broad swath of the country, a team of reporters and a sweeping area of coverage. Geographically, it is 16 states from North Dakota to Texas, Ohio to Kansas.
The subject terrain is equally vast: politics during an election; economies coming off a prolonged stretch of low unemployment; states battling for workers with incentives; rivers reshaping towns with floods; and life on military bases. It is an exciting time to be covering the U.S. and this job is at the heart of shaping our coverage.
You will identify high-impact stories and issues for us to cover. We are looking for someone who loves both soaring narratives and penetrating investigations. The ability to spot memorable stories is a must, especially in a region where changes can be both bold and subtle. A successful editor will have a great touch for engaging readers on all platforms.
You need to be a great manager and collaborator. The job requires leading reporters in Chicago, where the position is based, as well as in other cities across the region. U.S. news reporters frequently collaborate with colleagues and bureaus from across coverage areas at the Journal.
This job reports to the U.S. coverage chief.
