The West Point Association of Graduates is dedicated to furthering the ideals and promoting the welfare of the United States Military Academy (USMA), and to supporting and serving its graduates.  USMA is renowned as one of the world's preeminent leader development institutions.  The student body, or Corps of Cadets, numbers 4,400 and each year approximately 1,000 cadets graduate and are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army.

The West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) is seeking a Multi-Media Journalist/Social Media Manager.  This position reports to the VP of Communications and Marketing.

The incumbent uses skill, creativity, computer technology and cameras to produce cross-platform communications combining text copy, photography, audio and video used for print and electronic dissemination. The Multi-Media Journalist is a visual communicator and storyteller who will convey WPAOG and USMA stories in a powerful and compelling manner.

The Multi-Media Journalist/ Social Media Manager for WPAOG serves across a variety of communications functions, including acting as a Writer, Photographer, Digital Content Producer, Social Media Manager, Video Producer, and as a WPAOG/USMA Communications Liaison as required. The Multi-Media Journalist works both in the office and on location when covering news stories of interest.

Typical applications will include marketing and promotional literature and presentations; digital stories combining photography, audio and video; the association magazines, social media, and other communication vehicles for organization use. This individual will spend time in the office using computer technology to create, edit and produce multi-media work, as well as be assigned to cover live events and document other topics using digital cameras and mobile platforms, both onsite and at occasional remote locations. Because of the cross-platform technology and media the individual produces, he/she will work hand-in-hand with editorial, website, and communications staff to produce effective marketing and communication content that is designed to engage WPAOG members and friends as well as cadets, parents, faculty, staff and visitors.

Strong organizational and analytical skills and excellent oral and written communications are required.  Must have knowledge of both Mac and PC hardware, software and file formats used for photo manipulation, audio and video editing, graphic and electronic interactive media design, office support, and file transmission. In addition, a strong working knowledge of multiple platforms used for multi-media design and production and social media is essential. The incumbent must have knowledge of graphic branding principles, color palettes and image balance in order to create content that represents, enhances and builds the image and brand recognition of WPAOG and supports the mission of the Association as well as the Academy. Extensive experience using photo and video cameras to document athletic and other institutional events, producing hi-res quality images appropriate for use in a wide range of communication products is required. The ability to perform work assignments, manage priorities, and coordinate work flow in order to meet all assigned deadlines is a must.

A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, solid journalism background, and in-depth experience using Creative Suite/InDesign/PhotoShop/Spark, and Premiere and/or FinalCutPro is required.  Working knowledge of Adobe After Effects, Adobe Flash and Adobe Dreamweaver is a plus. Ability to see large projects from concept through to scripting and print production, video production, or online dissemination is essential.  Must be able to shoot “people” events, news events, athletic events, and products using both still photo and video for use in multiple formats, on multiple platforms, and for a wide array of communication vehicles.
