- Full Time
The Real Deal is the largest real-estate news outlet in the US, reaching millions of professionals monthly through digital, print, social media and events. Readers turn to it multiple times a day for breaking news, market intelligence, custom research, proprietary rankings, deal analysis, profiles, trends and much more. We have received more than 50 awards for editorial excellence over the past 5 years, including the General Excellence award from the Society of Business Writers and Editors.
The publication is to the universe of real estate what Variety is to entertainment or what Politico is to Beltway politics – a plugged-in news outlet that is read by the entire industry. The universe of real estate, however, is far larger than that of Capitol Hill or Hollywood – our readers include pension funds, tech startup founders, hedge funds, architects, materials engineers, contractors, and much more. Quantcast rates us among the 800-most visited sites in the U.S, and ranked us #1 among U.S. websites with the wealthiest audience.
The Web Editor would be responsible for editing daily breaking news on the website, aggregating big real-estate stories from other media outlets, and helping to brainstorm follow-up stories and larger features. They will also be responsible for the overall look and feel of the website, working with the content production team to keep the site looking fresh and visually appealing. The web editor will also develop a broad network of relationships with editors and reporters, other media outlets and increase our visibility through story pickups.
The ideal candidate will have an interest in covering money and power and a keen sense of how the industry brings together elements of politics, business, entertainment, finance and law. The ability to edit breaking news is a must, as is the ability to pitch story ideas, write clean copy on deadline, and spot holes in reporting. Experience in business journalism is a must, as is the ability to bring out the best in seasoned reporters.
This is a full-time position based at TRD’s Hollywood office. Salary is competitive and is based on experience. Benefits include health insurance, a 401-K plan and the ability to grow within a rapidly expanding organization.
Qualified applicants should send a resume, cover letter and three clips to Hiten Samtani, Associate Publisher, West Coast, at email@example.com. Please put “LA Web Editor” in the subject line.
