Journal Development Editor










The Journal Development Editor role is ideally suited to a talented and proactive individual who is passionate about science, technology and open access. Strategic thinking, excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships are key to success in this exciting and varied position. As the primary publishing contact for a portfolio of titles in the Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Applied Sciences portfolio, the successful candidate will be responsible for growing and developing their journal cluster, and ensuring exceptional service to our authors, reviewers and other external stakeholders. 










Main responsibilities:





  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with Editors in Chief, Editorial Boards, Society contacts and other stakeholders as the key contact for publishing matters

  • Ascertain and understand the current trends and market share of the subject field and journal portfolio

  • Produce and implement strategic development plans for the journals, in line with company strategy

  • Ensure journals receive appropriate representation in indexing services and are promoted through all relevant avenues

  • Represent the company at scientific conferences to improve market knowledge, network within the community, receive feedback on the journals, and promote our journals and open access

  • Proactively flag and implement improvements to policies, processes, workflows, and systems as required

  • Work with other team members to identify opportunities for acquiring journals






Experience, skills and qualifications:





  • Educated to degree level

  • Keen interest in open access publishing

  • Proven knowledge of publishing process and related matters

  • Highly customer focused

  • Proven administration skills

  • Excellent organizational and influencing skills

  • Excellent critical appraisal and problem solving skills

  • Ability to take ownership to drive and complete tasks

  • Proven ability to consistently meet deadlines

  • Ability to adapt quickly to change

  • Strong attention to detail/high accuracy

  • Proven high level of computer literacy











  • Developed knowledge of the field

  • Previous experience working in the publishing industry
